Acres of Diamonds: The Mindset That Will Help You Achieve More

Thank you for listening to The Champion Forum Podcast with Jeff Hancher! Did you know that most people give up on their goals just two weeks into January? The problem is not usually that the goal is too hard, but that people have the wrong mindset! What if you had everything you needed to be successful in the goals you originally established? Today on The Champion Forum Podcast I will challenge you to consider a mindset shift that will help you understand that success is closer than you think, within our reach, and waiting to be discovered.

Lead the Field by Earl Nightingale

This landmark book is a practical guide on how to think and act like a success. Earl’s stories are a guide on how to think and act if you want to be successful. He covers topics including doubling your mental capacity, recognizing and overcoming obstacles to high achievement, a daily, three-minute exercise that will change your life, and so much more. In addition, he shows that the number one key to success is your attitude!

Acres of Diamonds

One story Nightingale tells is of a farmer who did not realize that there were diamonds on his land and instead sold his land to look for diamonds elsewhere. He explains that an acre of diamonds is the potential of the life you are living right now. If you take the time to develop your gifts, focusing on the opportunities and skills you already have, you can achieve even more than if you chase every new opportunity that comes along.

Application Activities:

  1. What is your acre of diamonds? Take some time to evaluate how you are spending your time. Are you focused on one area, or are you spreading your attention across multiple pursuits? What skills do you have right now that you could cultivate and develop? What would it look like if you spent 30 minutes a day working on the skills that you already have?

  2. People often look outside of their current skills and sphere for success because they feel like what they have is not enough. They worry that the people around them have already cornered the market on success. In reality, there is an abundance of success! Take some time to cultivate this mindset of abundance by watching the way you think about other people. Allow other people’s success to inspire you and prove that success is possible. Stop thinking about what you lack and focus on what you have in your hands right now. The more you become aware of the mindset of lack, the easier it will be to cultivate a mindset of abundance.
