Thank you for listening to The Champion Forum Podcast with Jeff Hancher! This week Jeff interviews Nicholas Bayerle, founder of Billion Dollar Body, which helps businessmen have the health, power, and confidence they need to succeed. He also hosts his own podcast and speaks on stages across the country. In this episode, Jeff and Nicholas talk about Nicholas’s journey, his progress, and the lessons he has learned in his journey to owning a million-dollar business.
On his biggest fear:
Everyone has fears, but you can’t hide your fears. You have to find mentors that will help you expose your weaknesses and work through them.
Q: What is the most important skill for people to have?
Communication is the most important skill to develop. Everyone used to know each other, but now because people move more frequently and they can get information with technology, connection and communication are put on the sidelines. If you want to improve your communication skills, get around good communicators. You will pick up the speaking habits of the people around you.
Q: What is the most important quality in a leader?
A leader needs to be a person who is committed. Commitment means that you do what you said you would do after the commitment you said it in had passed.
Q: What is the best investment you can make?
Invest in yourself first, then invest in your knowledge base, your skills, and a mastermind. You will get a greater return from investing in yourself than you will in any other product, person, or stock.
“Ultimately, there's one investment that supersedes all others: Invest in yourself,”
Warren Buffett
On being a champion:
Being a champion has nothing to do with talent. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Go find a mentor because you will have plenty of opportunities when you have the network and the knowledge.
Q: Do you agree that habits are more easily caught than taught? What habits (good or bad) have you acquired from the people around you? Describe a time when you wanted to change a habit or improve in an area. What did you do to reach your goal? How did the people around you affect your progress?
Q: Describe a time when a mentor opened a door for you. Why do you think your mentor opened the door for you? How has your network been a part of growing your career? What advice would you give someone who doesn’t currently have a network?
Q: Which of Nicholas’s personal stories resonated with you the most? What do you think is the secret to his success?
Application Activities:
What is your biggest fear? What have you done to actively work to overcome that fear? Set aside time this week to journal about your fear and decide how you want to overcome it. Be honest with yourself. Ask a friend or mentor to help you better understand your fear and decide on a plan.
In what area do you want to improve? Seek out a mentor who will help you grow in that area by providing honest feedback. You might have to look outside your current circle to find this person. Consider what qualities you want in this mentor. Honesty, integrity, compassion, clarity, etc.
What was the last investment you made in yourself? Make a goal for 2020 to attend at least one conference to help you grow personally and/or professionally. When you invest time and money into yourself, you will see a great return. Remember that it is not necessarily about the information you learn, but the information combined with the connections you make. Write down the dates of the conference you will attend in your calendar and build it into your budget for next year.
